About Caligula
Caligula is a mossy woody chypre eau de parfum for men, inspired by Aramis 900 by Aramis. It is the most classical fragrance in our men's range and it makes no apology for that.
The opening is bright but brief: lemon and bergamot lift off the skin, and rosewood immediately gives them a polished, almost furniture-wax smoothness. Within twenty minutes the florals arrive, and this is where the fragrance shows its age in the best possible way. Carnation is spicy and peppery, orris is powdery and cool, and geranium runs green and slightly metallic between them.
Then comes the chypre floor. Oakmoss, patchouli and vetiver build something damp, earthy and bitter-green, like a forest after rain or the inside of a well-kept library. There is no sugar here at all. What you get instead is depth, dryness and a kind of restraint that modern fragrances rarely attempt.
Caligula suits a certain man: someone who owns a proper coat, orders a negroni and is not trying to smell young. It works on cool evenings, at dinners with white tablecloths, at weddings and funerals alike. It is also beautifully unisex if you like mossy things. Wear it sparingly, because moss and patchouli travel, and let it settle for ten minutes before you decide what you think of it. Give it a full wearing before you judge it, because mossy chypres reveal themselves slowly and this one is in no hurry at all.

If you love Aramis 900, Caligula sits squarely in the same family. Both are green, mossy chypres built around a spicy carnation and orris heart, and both carry that dry, dignified quality that defines the style. Wearing ours will feel like meeting a relative of the original rather than a stranger.
The differences are real, though. Our rosewood is more prominent in the first hour, which softens the sharp herbal bite the original opens with. The moss in our base is slightly rounder and less bitter, making Caligula a little easier to wear for anyone new to chypres. It projects less in the opening but holds on comparably long. Caligula is inspired by that classic profile and shares its DNA, but it is our own composition, with its own balance and its own character.

When to wear it
Cool weather flatters this one. Autumn and winter evenings let the moss and patchouli breathe without turning heavy, and it is a natural choice for formal dinners, theatre nights and occasions with a dress code. Two sprays only, ideally on a jacket collar where mossy fragrances live longest. The 50ml at R120 is the sensible size for a scent you will reach for seasonally rather than daily.

Does Caligula smell like Aramis 900?
It shares the same green, mossy chypre character and the spicy carnation heart that define Aramis 900. It is an original composition inspired by that fragrance, not a reproduction, and ours is a touch smoother in the opening.
Is Caligula suitable for a younger wearer?
It can be, but it is a mature style. If you enjoy vintage barbershop and mossy fragrances, it will work at any age. If your taste runs sweet and fruity, start elsewhere in the range.
Can women wear Caligula?
Absolutely. Mossy chypres have always crossed over, and the orris and carnation heart reads beautifully on anyone who likes a dry, powdery floral with earth underneath.
How does it behave in summer heat?
Heat amplifies patchouli and oakmoss, so it can feel dense on a hot day. Use one spray in summer, or keep it for the cooler months when it performs at its best.
