About Nine Seas
Nine Seas is a modern woody aromatic eau de parfum for men, inspired by Bleu de Chanel by Chanel. If you own one fragrance for work, this is the sort of thing it should be.
It opens cold and clean. Bergamot, lemon and grapefruit arrive together, pink pepper gives them a lift, and a marine accord stretches the whole thing wide so it smells like air moving over water. Vetiver is already present in the top, which is unusual and clever, because it stops the citrus from ever reading as fruit juice.
Through the middle, the fragrance becomes distinctly grown up. Ginger and nutmeg bring warmth, peppermint keeps the coolness alive, cedarwood and labdanum start the descent, and a whisper of jasmine smooths the joins. There is a grey, mineral quality here that is difficult to describe and very easy to wear.
The base is the reason it lasts. Frankincense adds a dry, faintly sacred smokiness, sandalwood brings creaminess, and amber wood gives the finish its polish. Hours later it still smells composed. Wear it to meetings, interviews, weddings and long-haul flights, and wear it in almost any weather. It is not the most exciting fragrance we sell, and that is exactly the point: it is the one that never lets you down. Three sprays will carry you from a morning meeting to a late dinner without ever needing a second thought, which is the whole reason to own it.
If you love Bleu de Chanel
If you love Bleu de Chanel, Nine Seas shares its DNA in all the places that matter: the cool citrus and marine opening, the ginger and nutmeg warmth in the middle, and the incense, sandalwood and amber base that gives the original its smooth, professional signature.
The differences are in texture rather than direction. Our frankincense is slightly more forward, which makes the dry-down a touch smokier and drier, and the grapefruit in our opening is sharper and less sweet. The original has a creamier finish; ours stays a little more mineral. Both are exceptionally versatile and both last around seven to eight hours with moderate projection. Nine Seas is inspired by that fragrance and has a similar character, but it is an original composition with its own smoky lean.

When to wear it
One of the few fragrances here that works year round, though it is happiest in spring, autumn and winter. Wear it from morning to night, to the office, to formal events and anywhere a dress code applies. Three sprays, one of which should go on the shirt. Given how often you will reach for it, the 100ml at R200 is the practical buy, with a 30ml at R70 for travel.

Does Nine Seas smell like Bleu de Chanel?
It shares the same cool citrus, incense and sandalwood character that made Bleu de Chanel a modern benchmark. Ours is an original composition inspired by that fragrance, not a reproduction, and the incense is a little more pronounced.
Is it versatile enough to be my only fragrance?
Yes. It is the most season-proof and occasion-proof scent in our men's range, suitable for work, weekends and formal events without any adjustment to how you apply it.
How long does it last on clothing?
A spray on a shirt collar can still be detected the following day. On skin, expect seven to eight hours, with the incense and sandalwood carrying the final stretch.
Is it suitable as a gift for someone who is fussy?
It is our safest gift in the men's range. It smells expensive, it offends nobody, and the 50ml at R120 presents well for birthdays and anniversaries.
